The European Commission finalized the anti-dumping investigation on stainless steel pipe fittings originating in China and decided to implement a five-year anti-dumping measure with an anti-dumping duty rate of 30.7% -64.9%. Wang Hejun, director of the Bureau of Trade Relief Investigation of the Ministry of Commerce, made a statement on this issue.
Wang Hejun said that China seriously questions the method and decision of the European Commission on determining the high tax rate and pays close attention to the EU's tendency toward trade protectionism in the steel industry.
During the investigation, the Commission ignored the active cooperation of enterprises and the factual materials submitted and the reasonable defense arguments. It continued to use the unfair and unreasonable "alternative country" method to lay down high tax rates and seriously damaged the interests of Chinese enterprises.
The Chinese government hopes that the EU will strictly abide by the WTO rules and terminate the use of the "alternative country" method to fully guarantee the right of defense of Chinese enterprises.
In response to the erroneous practice of the EU violating the WTO rules, China will take the necessary measures to safeguard the fair trade rights of enterprises.
Wang Hejun emphasized that the sluggish global economic recovery and shrinking demand are the fundamental reasons for the current downturn in the steel industry. All countries should jointly face up to overcome the hardships in a win-win manner and use trade remedy prudently.
Recklessly adopting trade protection measures will only have a further impact on the international trade order. China is willing to strengthen exchanges and communication with the EU and properly solve the problems facing the current steel industry.
